Millions Were Poisoned by Toxic Water at Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River

From 1953 to 1987, more than one million people who lived, worked, or served at Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River were exposed to contaminated water laced with toxic chemicals and volatile organic compounds like benzene, vinyl chloride, trichloroethylene, and tetrachloroethylene.

For many of those veterans, military contractors, and military family members, that toxic exposure directly contributed to a significantly higher risk of both short and long-term health issues—including cancer, birth defects and miscarriage, Parkinson’s disease, and much more.

If you or a loved one were affected, until recently there wasn’t much you could do about it. But thanks to new bipartisan legislation being considered by Congress, victims may soon finally be able to sue in district court for the Eastern District of North Carolina for the justice and reparations they deserve.

Are You Eligible for Compensation?

According to the Camp Lejeune Justice Act, part of the broader Honoring Our PACT Act of 2022 currently being deliberated in Congress, you may be eligible to file a claim for compensation against the U.S. government once the legislation passes if you meet the following requirements:

  1. You (or a spouse, parent, child, or other close family member under your care) lived or worked at Camp Lejeune or Marine Corps Air Station New River for at least 30 days (cumulative) between August 1953 and December 1987.

  2. You or your loved one were diagnosed with a form of cancer or other health condition with a known link to the contaminants in the drinking water at the base.
